Soft, fluffy, whipped, yummy mashed potatoes. So simple yet, so delicious. You can pair mashed potatoes with just about anything for the perfect meal. It’s definitely a comfort food, and has been around for ages. There are so many recipes for mashed potatoes, But this is my version. It’s pretty much a fool proof recipe so there is no way to mess it up, and it comes out perfect every single time!

Simple Mashed Potatoes {Serves 10}

Ingredients:

  • 1 Stick (8 Tablespoons) Unsalted butter
  • 5 LB Golden potatoes (May also be called Gold potatoes) *I have noticed that this kind of potato tastes best for mashed potatoes
  • 1 and 1/4 cup of heavy whipping cream
  • Salt/Pepper to taste

Directions:

1) Peel the potatoes and put them in a large bowl of water *Cut out any black spots/bruises that the potato may have, It really makes a big difference in the taste*

2) Wash the potatoes thoroughly, drain the water, then cut the potatoes into even sized pieces. I usually cut them into quarters.

3) Put the potatoes in a pot and fill the pot with cold water. Just enough water to cover the potatoes.

4) Set the stove on Medium-High heat (I did an 8.0)

5) When the water starts to boil, add some salt. I usually add half a Tablespoon.

6) When the potatoes are soft and can be poked through with a fork, It means that they are done *Make sure all the potatoes are soft because you don’t want to have chunky mashed potatoes!* You can then drain out all the water with a colander.

7) Put the potatoes back into the pot. Mash them with a masher. Then add the butter right away (I cut my butter into thin squares and throw them in, That way it evenly distributes). IMG_0361

8) Mix very well and pour in the heavy whipping cream. Mix again until evenly distributed. Add more salt and pepper, according to your preferences.

9) If you have time and a hand mixer, I highly recommend mixing the potatoes with the hand mixer for a few minutes. It makes the potatoes very fluffy, soft, airy, just perfect. So if you have a few minutes, Definitely try it and you will see the big difference that it makes!

* I apologize in advance for not taking pictures of every single step, It was a busy night. Next time I make mashed potatoes I will try to add more pics to this recipe*
